Marc Marquez once again felt the title of champion in the 2024 MotoGP Aragon sprint race session at the Motorland Aragon Circuit, Saturday (31/8/2024), after struggling for almost three years.
Marquez successfully finished first. Since starting from pole position, the former world champion performed flawlessly and was unrivaled by his rivals.
Marquez’s dominance in the 2024 MotoGP Aragon sprint race session was reminiscent of Marquez’s glory from 2013 to 2019. The last time Marquez became the series champion was in the 2021 MotoGP Emilia Romagna race.
“This is only a sprint race, I realize it’s only Saturday. But, as I said to my team, we have to start. Or they told me, because I’m always careful. Tomorrow is the most important, of course tomorrow is the main race. However, you have to start, you have to go through stages,” Marquez told DAZN as reported by Motosan.
Marquez could not hide his joy after being injured in 2020 and struggling for the last three seasons with Repsol Honda, from 2021 to 2023. The move to Gresini Racing in 2024 did not immediately result in a championship title.
“We won the first Sprint, this is something. We’ll see if we can finish it tomorrow in a long race. But, this weekend we can achieve something that we have not been able to achieve before,” said the owner of eight world titles.
Marquez revealed the secret of victory while expressing his confidence that he could perform well in Sunday’s race.
“I think [I am confident because of] the combination this weekend. This is a circuit that I like, a circuit that turns to the left [counterclockwise]. I am better at the left corners. And yesterday’s asphalt was better, but the rain last night slowed down the speed.”
“I think I will be faster tomorrow. But, I feel this is easy and good for me. I can perform without forcing everything to go well,” explained the racer who is identical to the number 93.
By taking first place in the 2024 MotoGP Aragon sprint race, Marquez is now ranked fourth in the rider standings. Marquez has now collected 204 points or only 13 points behind Enea Bastianini who is in third place.
The gap with Jorge Martin who leads the standings is 75 points. With nine races remaining, Marquez still has a chance to become MotoGP world champion again.
