Marseille opens an investigation after Evra kicking out at a fan

Patrice Evra has probably signed the end of his career at Olympique Marseille. The defender is clearly no longer in favour of the Marseille fans after relegated to the substitutes’ bench for recent weeks.

Evra had to start on the bench before the match against Vitoria Guimares in the Europa League on Thursday night at the Estadio D Afonso Henriques in Guimares. However, he sent off before the kick off in the history of the match.

According to report, the 36-year-old was abused by Marseille fan for several minutes. Former Manchester United and Juventus player went to see the fan to explain, rather vehemently, from the images captured by BeIn Sports.

The situation degenerated when he made the first blow to a supporter who came to meet him. Some Marseille fan then entered the ground to abuse the Frenchman, who responded with a kick to one of them.

“It’s a serious, professional mistake. He must no longer be employed by Olypique. He is no longer part of football. Now we’re going to call it ‘I love this kick’.” said one of Marseille fan after the incident.

“At the start of the warm-up, there was no net and he sent balloons to the stands. He could not find the goal. It’s complicated for a professional player. He did not apologise we heated it a bit. I will not say the words because it is a little rough but he turned by insulting the moms of the fan.

So obviously, we, the Marseille fans, we are a little hot. It doesn’t excuse the behavior of the supporters but it excuses even less the gesture of Patrice Evra to kick our friend on the head.” he added.

On the other side, Marseille have opened an investigation after the incident. They have admitted the player must maintain self-control despite an abuse.

“An internal investigation was conducted to establish all the responsibilities. In any case, a professional player must maintain self-control despite provocations and abuse, no matter how unjustified they may be.” in a statement.

“At the same time, the club can only condemn any destructive behaviour by our supporters which hurts their own players at a time when they should instead be supporting their team.” Marseille added.
