Massimiliano Allegri’s future at Juventus in jeopardy

Massimiliano Allegri’s fate as a Juventus tactician is likely to be threatened.

Previously, Massimiliano Allegri as Juventus coach was sacked by the club three years ago.

Allegri returned as Juventus coach last year.

Appearances this season can not be said to be satisfactory.

Especially in the Champions League, his team lost 1-2 at home to Benfica on Thursday (15/8/2022).

In that match, Juventus had won through Arkadiusz Miliki’s opening goal.

However, Benfica was able to reply through Joao Mario’s penalty and David Neres’ goal.

This result saw Juventus suffer their second straight defeat in the competition after losing 1-2 at Paris Saint-Germain last week.

This is the first time Juventus have lost in two early Champions League matches.

Quoted from SportReviews from the AP News page, Thursday (15/9/2022), Juventus, also only won two of its opening six matches in Serie A.

Juventus’ performance was booed off the pitch after the match.

The Italian team actually started well in the game as they took the lead with less than four minutes.

However, that started to fade and Benfica had several chances to equalize.

Especially when Rafa Silva’s shot hit the right post six minutes before halftime.

The visitors equalized shortly after Juventus midfielder Fabio Miretti tackled Goncalo Ramos’ legs on the edge of the box.

Joao Mario who executed the penalty managed to net the ball into the net.

Benfica turned things around completely 10 minutes into the second half.

Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin did brilliantly to fend off Rafa Silva’s effort but could do nothing to prevent Neres’ follow-up.

The only positive note for Juventus was that Angel Di María came on as a substitute when he came back from injury.

His attempt hit the post in the 71st minute.

Angel Di Maria also had a hand in scoring for Dusan Vlahovic, seven minutes from time.

But the goal was disallowed for offside.
