Mateo Kovacic Set to Join Manchester City in Summer Transfer Deal

Mateo Kovacic’s future seems to be heading towards Manchester City as the Croatian midfielder reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Premier League champions. The news of this potential transfer has sparked excitement among football fans, as Kovacic’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire in June 2024.

Chelsea, aware of Kovacic’s reluctance to leave on a free transfer next summer, has shown interest in offloading the player with one year remaining on his contract. The Croatian international has made 37 appearances for Chelsea throughout the 2022-2023 season, contributing with one goal and two assists amidst the club’s turbulent campaign.

Renowned transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Manchester City has reached an agreement on personal terms with Mateo Kovacic. While the formalities are yet to be finalised, the negotiations between the two clubs are expected to take place after the conclusion of the 2022-2023 Champions League final.

“Mateo Kovacic has now agreed personal terms with Manchester City after follow-up talks were revealed last week,” twitter Fabrizio Romano. “Kovacic wants to move, and the next step will involve discussions between the clubs regarding the transfer fee after the Champions League final.”

Chelsea has granted Manchester City permission to hold talks with Kovacic, signalling their willingness to sell the Croatian midfielder. Meanwhile, Kovacic himself has confirmed his readiness to depart Stamford Bridge after a disappointing season. With five years at Chelsea coming to an end, the 29-year-old midfielder is seeking a fresh start.

“I have one year left on my contract with Chelsea. It’s been a really bad season. Everything indicates that I will change the environment after five years, but we will see what happens,” expressed Kovacic. He also praised Manchester City as a top team chasing their first treble win in English football since 1999, fueling speculation about a potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is still long, and we’ll see what will happen in the future,” Kovacic added. With Manchester City possibly needing a new midfielder if Ilkay Gundogan’s contract extension falls through, Kovacic’s arrival would bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad as they aim to defend their Premier League and FA Cup titles in the upcoming season.
