Monster Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales blamed Honda’s Jorge Lorenzo following a track surface incident at Barcelona Grand Prix on Sunday.
Lorenzo made a big mistake, his overtaking attempt at the tight Turn 10 left-hander went wrong and he hit Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso and Vinales, with Valentino Rossi also caught up in the incident later on.
“I saw him inside and tried to avoid contact, but he hit my rear wheel and I just stole. It was impossible to avoid the accident,” Vinales said.
“This turn is always difficult, but you’re 4th and it’s the beginning of the race. You could have passed me in the straight line – we are slow in the lines straight!
“He only had to wait 4 turns to pass me. It’s a rookie mistake, but he is 5 times world champion. You have to think about the bike. He is a good driver and he has talent, but we do not win the race after 2 laps.” Vinales added.
Following the Sunday’s incident, Vinales called for his compatriot to be relegated to the back of the grid for the next race at Assen.
“He hit four riders. It was a racing incident, but he also crashed Andrea Dovizioso, who is fighting for the championship. So all cumulated, I hope the race management will do theirs job as they did yesterday with me,” Vinlaes said.
Marc Marquez on the other hand, who went on to dominate the race, and claimed afterwards that Lorenzo didn’t deserve a penalty and wasn’t out of control.
“Of course all the people will say Lorenzo was out of [control], but he was not out of control. I was lucky because I overtake Dovi.” Marquez said.
“Dovi went out of the racing line, Vinales was out more, and Jorge went in on the correct line, but unfortunately lost the front.
“It’s a corner that is so difficult. When you have two, three MotoGP bikes in front, the slipstream is there and incidents can happen, like my crash with [Johann] Zarco at the end of the straight in Australia, or four years ago with [Andrea] Iannone and Jorge at the same corner in ‘16.” Marquez added.
