Lightweight UFC fighter, Khabib Nurmagomedov, claimed he only wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he had to go down in the boxing ring. According to Khabib, Mayweather Jr., who is now 41 years old, remains a formidable opponent with boxing regulation. “He is indeed old, but if you talk like I will compete against ‘young tigers’ in boxing, of course it will be very difficult for me,” said Khabib quoted by BolaSport.com from Bloody Elbow. “Just as if you talk about Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, both are dangerous,” Khabib added.
Khabib hopes to be able to fight Mayweather Jr. in the future. The reason is, Khabib believes that being able to fight Mayweather Jr. is an achievement in itself. “Mayweather is now 41 or 42 years old. You know he is a very big name,” Khabib said. “If we can take a very large ‘fish’, why not?” Khabib added.
Both Floyd Mayweather and Khabib Nurmagomedov actually expressed their interest in holding a duel. However, both of them are still hindered on negotiating the regulations and the place of battle. Mayweather Jr claimed he would accept Khabib if he wanted to fight in the boxing ring. However, Dana White as the President of the UFC who oversees Khabib wants the duel to be held in Oktagon with a free fighting regulation.
The boxing opponents, Manny Pacquiao, also expressed his intention to have rematch with Mayweather. However, Mayweather explained that he was not interested in fighting Manny Pacquiao. In fact, Mayweather admitted that at this time he had nothing to face the Filipino boxer. “I know what Manny Pacquiao wants to fight again, but I am not interested in facing anyone for now,” Mayweather said.
Even though he had refused the invitation from Pacquiao, Mayweather offered another alternative that could be done by both of them. Mayweather offers to do business with Pacquiao, but in promotional capacity.
Previously, Pacquiao and Mayweather had met in a duel which was held at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, United States, on May 2, 2015. In that fight, Mayweather won the victory.
Now, Pacquiao throws a challenge to Mayweather. In fact, actor Sylvester Stallone predicts the duel between the two boxers can be great and interesting. However, Mayweather, now 41, hung her gloves in August after winning the fight against UFC star Conor McGregor. During the fight, Mayweather won TKO over McGregor in the 10th round.
