Fresh from his 50th professional boxing win, Floyd Mayweather is set to join a club that you probably don’t belong to.
CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, spoke of Mayweather joining the billionaire athletes club.
This is the current list:
Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.
“I don’t think he’s doing too bad. I think with this fight deal he’ll be one of three athletes, along with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, to go over a billion dollars. I don’t think he’s doing too bad,” Ellerbe told MMA Junkie.
However Mayweather’s childhood was traumatic to say the least.
With his father jailed for drug dealing, and mother dealing with drug addiction, Mayweather grew up fast.
Whilst holding his baby son in 1978, Floyd Mayweather Snr was shot in the leg.
Mayweather has a troubled past personally also, spending two months in jail when pleading guilty to domestic violence in 2012.
“I had a father who was a hustler and a mother who was on drugs. I was the man in the house from 16. That’s just the way it was,” Floyd said back in 2007.
Mayweather sometimes found Heroin needles in the front garden, and at Christmas, his mum used to “steal presents”.
“People don’t know the hell I’ve been through,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather found a way out through boxing, and now looks after his mother.
It’s no wonder that Floyd is considered the greatest boxer of all time.
He’s been fighting his whole life.
