French blizzard Kylian Mbappé has finally bounced back into the scoring scene for Paris Saint-Germain as he scored for his side to pave their way to a crucial 3-0 home victory over AC Milan in their Champions League Group F encounter on Wednesday.
Mbappe, who has been under the radar of concern for the past few weeks owing to his goalless drought with PSG since the club’s last four outings, displayed his spectacular skills on the field, this time scoring from the front and finally ending his goalless run.
The match, which was a complete show of dominance by the French club, saw goals from Mbappe, Kolo Muani, and Lee Kang-in at crucial intervals along with some resolute defense work to seal a comprehensive win against Milan. Teen midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery set up two goals, including PSG’s third for South Korea winger Lee Kang-in near the end.
The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when Warren Zaire-Emery dashed into the playing area with the ball, sending it to Mbappe who wrong-footed the ball to deceive Milan keeper Mike Maignan with his strike from the edge of the box, giving PSG the lead as the crowd at Parc des Princes went bonkers!
Eight minutes into the second half, Muani found the perfect slot to net the second goal of the night for PSG, extending a 2-0 lead over the opponents. While the Milanos tried desperately to close the gap or at best equalize, Lee Kang-in put the final nail in the coffin for them when he netted the third and final goal of the night during the dying minutes of the game. With 89 minutes already up the clock, PSG were comfortably leading at 3-0.
This was a delightful victory for PSG after having previously been squashed with a humiliating 4-1 defeat by Newcastle United. With that. PSG has now moved to the top of the Group F standings with 6 points, two points clear of Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle. As for AC Milan, last season’s semifinalist, things are getting ever tighter with the prospect of not even qualifying for the Europa League as a consolation.
AC Milan was clearly dominated by the guests, managing barely 38% ball possession in the match. The seven-time champion side still has not won or scored in Group F and slipped four points behind PSG following the defeat on Wednesday.
