Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi reportedly will be receiving a significant salary increase after she officially extending her contract with Korean Volleyball League club Red Sparks.
Mega will certainly continue to strengthen Red Sparks the next season after she extending her contract for another year. Red Sparks coach Ko Hee Jin expressed Megawati’s certainty about staying.
“We decided to extend Megawati’s contract without hesitation. Mega also wants to show a better performance next season. We will make better preparations to create good synergy starting at the start of next season,” said Ko Hee Jin, quoted by The Sports Times.
“We were able to advance to the postseason [playoff] because of the extraordinary performance of foreign players like Mega,” said Hee Jin as quoted by ISplus.
By extending her contract with Red Sparks, it has been confirmed that Megawati will receive a significant salary increase. As an Asian quota player in her second season playing in the Korean Volleyball League, Mega is claimed to have receive a salary increase up to 50 percent.
Red Sparks reportedly will pay Megawati US$150 thousand or equivalent of 2.4 billion Rupiahs next season. The same salary will be received by a player from Thailand, Wipawee Srithong, who has also officially extended her contract with the defending champion team Hillstate.
“The two players [Mega and Wipawee] who earned US$100 thousand last season, will get an annual salary of US$150 thousand this season,” wrote the Sports Times.
Apart from successfully bringing Red Sparks to qualify for the playoff series for the first time in the last seven years in the Korean Volleyball League last season, Megawati was also successful in making Red Sparks’ fame skyrocket in Indonesia.
Finally, Red Sparks held an exhibition match at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, against Indonesia All Star on April 20.
