After getting Sergio Busquets into their side, Inter Miami have now added the Legend Lionel Messi into their lineup. Thr Argentina legend has signed a 2 years contract till December 2025 with Inter Miami following his contract expiry with his former club Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG has witnessed a lot of backlash from the fortball community with fans, critics and even fellow footballers criticizing the club for letting the legend leave their club after having a fantastic run throughout 2022 which saw him steering his National side to a historic victory in the FIFA World Cup final against defending champions France.
In one of the most recent interviews, Messi revealed that leaving PSG to join Inter Miami instead of Barcelona was his decision. Before PSG, the Argentina star had a memorable run with his former club Barcelona. Messi left Barcelona in August 2021 on a free transfer to join PSG, as they were unable to register his contract in LaLiga. When his contract with PSG was nearing expiry, Barcelona expressed their interest in re-signing their former star player back into their team. Rumors were rife that the ace striker would be going back to the club for a second run, much to the delight and excitement of his fans from Barca.
However, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Barcelona were again stuck in the same quagmire as they were unable to offer any guarantees that the league will allow them to sign new players.
Messi revealed in the interview that regardless of his desire to return to Barcelona once again, he chose to walk another direction as he didn’t want to go through the same situation again and have to wait to see what would happen. Apparently, Barcelona are still going through a financial crunch and are selling players or lowering players’ wages, which he didn’t want to go through again.
He was up in talks for a contract extension with Barcelona in 2021, but the club could not register his deal with LaLiga which prompted him to find immediate solutions to the issue and depart from the club where he performed for around 20 glorious years. Citing the said concern and not wanting to go through the same mess once again, he decided to join Inter Milan instead. He revealed that he has also received offers from Saudi Arabia and other European clubs as well.
The most successful and celebrated player of the modern football era, Messi now stands in the Inter Miami line up till 2025 with the same responsibility and desire to win.
