Mick Quinn will try to strike while the iron is hot with Great Hall in Saturday’s Gigaset Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.
The seven-year-old has returned to form with a vengeance for Quinn this season and won off his highest ever mark at Yarmouth last time out.
That was his third win in succession following two victories at Ascot, improving 13lb in the process.
However, Quinn was not overly enamoured to see multiple Group One winner Highland Reel among the entries.
“Basically our lad loves Ascot and is in the form of his life, so why not have a go?” said Quinn.
“When I saw the entries and we were next to Highland Reel, it brought it home what we could be up against.
“Our lad is up to 105 now so he’s got a sporting chance. He won off his highest ever mark last time so he’s thriving.
“He ran in the St Leger in his younger days and ran some good races for John Quinn before he went hurdling and though he won, I don’t think he was overly in love with that.
“I think he enjoys being in a small yard like ours and he’s loving life again. Last time out he barely knew he had a race, Fran put him in front right on the line and he finished full of running, so there might be more to come.”
