Miguel Oliveira to Miss French MotoGP

Miguel Oliveira is reportedly will have to miss the 2023 French MotoGP at Le Mans due to a shoulder injury.

The Portuguese was involved in a crash on the first lap of the race of the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez last Sunday.

“While immediate medical attention successfully repositioned his dislocated left shoulder, further assessments revealed a more severe injury, including a fracture in the humerus and an anterior ligamentous labrum injury.” a RNF Aprilia team statement read.

“Although Oliveira and his doctors have decided against surgery, he will need to focus on the healing process and will not be able to participate in the French round.”

“The team wishes him a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back for the Italian GP.” the team added.

Although immediate medical attention moved his dislocated left shoulder back into position immediately after the accident, further examination Monday revealed that the injury was more serious, including a humerus (upper arm) fracture and anterior ligament injury.

Despite Oliveira’s and his doctors’ decision to avoid surgery, Oliveira will have to miss the French MotoGP while recovering.

The CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team has called up Aprilia MotoGP test rider Lorenzo Savadori to act as a replacement.

Savadori has already had the opportunity to get used to the team and the conditions during the official MotoGP test at the Circuito de Jerez, Angel Nieto last Monday.

It is the second time this season that Oliveira has to deal with injuries. Also during the first round weekend of the season in Portimao, he was involved in a crash in the early rounds of the race that injured his upper leg.

Due to that injury, Oliveira missed the second round of the season in Argentina. He is expected to be back at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello in early June.
