Week 28 of Serie A presents quite interesting results to watch. All the top teams have played matches and each game is interesting to watch. The following is a brief review of the matches of these top teams:
Cremonese vs Atalanta:
Atalanta was able to beat Cremonese with a landslide score of 3-1 at home to Cremonese. This result has made Atalanta now have 48 points and their position has not changed in 6th place in the standings. Even though it was against a team that is at the bottom of the standings, this victory did not come easily. Cremonese was able to provide quite fierce resistance with a fast counter-attack scheme, even being able to fire 15 shots. This number is 3 more than Atalanta’s total shots.
However, Atalanta proved that they have much better quality players. Atalanta’s defense made Cremonese only able to score 1 goal from a total of 9 shots on target. La Dea also proved that their front line is more efficient. Their attacks on the wings are very threatening as evidenced by the 2 goals scored by Marten de Roon and Jeremie Boga coming from passes from the wings.
Inter Milan vs Fiorentina:
This match ended with a score of 0-1 in favor of Fiorentina. The only goal in this match was scored by former AC Milan midfielder, Giacomo Bonaventura. This result also brought Fiorentina up to 8th in Serie A and lowered Inter to 4th in the standings with a collection of 50 points.
This one match went quite hot with buying and selling attacks launched by both teams. However, these two teams wasted too many golden opportunities which resulted in very few goals being scored. This is because the defense of the two teams can be said to be quite fragile because their opponents have penetrated it quite easily several times. The only goal in this match was scored through a corner kick scheme taking advantage of poor coordination in Inter Milan’s defense.
Juventus vs Hellas Verona:
One of the most on fire teams after deducting 15 points continued their positive trend by beating Hellas Verona with a score of 1-0 even though they appeared without most of their main players. The only goal in this match was scored by a young Italian striker, Moise Kean through a fast, short pass scheme.
This match actually went quite interesting because Hellas Verona was not completely dominated by Juventus and was able to release several opportunities through a pretty good counter-attack scheme. Juventus’ victory brings La Vecchia Signora closer to the Champions League zone with 44 points and Hellas Verona still can’t get out of the relegation zone.
Monza vs Lazio:
This match ended with a score of 0-2 for Lazio’s victory as well as strengthening the team nicknamed Biancocelesti in 2nd place in the Serie A standings with 55 points. Lazio’s 2 winning goals were created by Pedro and a free kick from the captain, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Even though they lost, Monza was able to show a pretty good performance. The newly promoted team this season created dangerous chances against Lazio, but Ivan Provedel’s appearance successfully kept Lazio’s goal neutral from the opponent’s goal. In terms of ball possession, Monza was actually superior and they were quite able to keep up with Lazio, especially after the first goal that occurred through the carelessness of Monza’s back line.
Roma vs Sampdoria:
Roma, who are in the race for a Champions League ticket, were able to sink Sampdoria with a landslide score of 3-0. This victory also brought Jose Mourinho’s team to pack 50 points (the same points as Inter who are in 4th position). Although, you could say that Roma’s victory was quite lucky because Sampdoria had to play with 10 players from 52 minutes after the second yellow card for Jeison Murillo.
In the first half, Sampdoria were able to attack and pose a threat to Roma. However, Rome also threatened Sampdoria’s goalkeeper, who was escorted by Nicola Ravaglia. Ravaglia was also able to show a top-flight performance in the first half by thwarting many opportunities from Roma players.
The second half, Sampdoria had to lose one of their defenders. This red card at the same time changed the flow of the match where Roma became far more dominant and the remaining Il Samp players had to fight even more. Georginio Wijnaldum became an important player in this match. Roma’s first goal was created by Georginio Wijnaldum who intelligently received a ball from Nemanja Matic’s side. The second goal was created from the spot after Wijnaldum was brought down by goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia in the forbidden box. The third goal was created by Stephan El Shaarawy taking advantage of the void on Sampdoria’s right side.
Napoli vs Milan:
The match that brought together these two giants ended in anti-climax. Napoli, who appeared at home, Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, was crushed by Milan with a score of 0-4. This defeat did not work
affect Napoli’s position which is still firm at the top of the standings. But for Milan, this victory brought Milan up to 3rd place in the standings with 51 points and is of course a positive provision for Milan to face the next Serie A matches as well as when they meet Napoli again in the Champions League quarter-finals which will take place on the 12th and 2nd. next April 18th.
Milan itself was badly beaten in ball possession with only 39%. However, Milan’s attack, commanded by Rafael Leao, was very efficient. I don’t know what happened, Napoli often lost the ball in the middle area which led to a super-fast counter-attack from Milan coupled with Napoli’s defense which seemed to have lost its way, making Milan freely hit shots and goals at goal, escorted by Alex Meret.
In this match, Leao proved himself to be a superstar belonging to Milan by contributing 2 goals. However, credit should also be given to Alexis Saelemaekers who came on as a substitute for Brahim Diaz in the 57th minute and was able to score a goal in the 67th minute through slick individual skills. Saelemaekers also threatened Napoli’s goal several times.
These matches made the top-flight competition in Serie A even hotter. Juventus are getting closer, coupled with the point difference between the teams in the Champions League zone, the distance is very thin, so anyone who slips, of course, threatens to lose a place in the 2023/24 Champions League season.
