Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for eight games as a result of the red card he received in the FA Cup match against Manchester United. The Man United vs Fulham match in the FA Cup quarter-finals last Sunday (19/3/2023) ended with three red cards for the visitors. In the match which Man United won with a score of 3-1, the referee Chris Kavanagh gave three red cards to Fulham.
The first red card was given to Fulham’s Brazilian winger, Willian, in the 70th minute. Willian was given a straight red card because he was judged to have deliberately used his hand to block Jadon Sancho’s shot towards an empty goal.
However, Aleksandar Mitrovic protested the referee’s decision. The Serbian national team striker was seen protesting loudly and pushing referee Chris Kavanagh. As a result, the court judge also pulled out a red card from his pocket for Mitrovic.
Apart from Willian and Mitrovic, Kavanagh also gave a red card to Fulham coach Marco Silva. The Portuguese tactician was expelled because he was considered to have excessively protested against the match officials.
The Willian handball incident resulted in a penalty for Man United which was successfully converted into a goal by Bruno Fernandes. Actions of protested loudly and pushed the referee are likely to be regretted by Aleksandar Mitrovic. Because, as a result of his actions, he was sentenced to an eight-game ban.
Mitrovic’s eight match ban was a loss for Fulham. Because, they still have 10 games remaining this season. That means, Fulham will not be strengthened by their main source of goals in eight of their remaining 10 matches.
For information, Aleksandar Mitrovic is the foundation of Fulham’s front line this season. From 21 appearances in the Premier League, the 28-year-old striker has successfully scored 11 goals.
Moreover, Man United’s winning goal over Fulham was packaged by Bruno Fernandes (75′, 90 + 6′) and Marcel Sabitzer (77′).
