The results of the decisive match in World Cup Group F brought Canada against Morocco.
The match which was held on Thursday (01/12/2022) at Al Thumama Stadium ended for Morocco to win with a score of 1-2.
Morocco was able to quickly take the lead over Canada through a goal from Hakim Ziyech in the 4th minute.
Then Morocco’s second goal was scored by Youssef En-Nesyri in the 23′ minute.
Meanwhile, Canada’s reply came from an own goal by Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd in the 40th minute.
This result made Morocco secure a position in the last 16.
In this match, Canadian coach Walid Reragui implemented a 4-4-1-1 formation by installing Cyle Larin as the spearhead of the team.
Meanwhile, Morocco appeared in a 4-3-3 formation by relying on Sofiane Boufal, Youssef En-Nesyri and Hakim Ziyech in attack.
In this match, Canada actually appeared to be more dominant for 90 minutes with fifty-nine percent ball possession and attempted five shots at goal but unfortunately none of these shots were on target.
Morocco, on the other hand, had forty-one percent possession and had six shots on target with two of these being goals for Morocco.
The first half had only been running for four minutes. Canada was surprised by a quick goal from Morocco through Hakim Ziyech who managed to take advantage of a mistake by Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan.
Milan Borjan intended to throw the ball forward but his shot fell at Hakim Ziyech’s feet.
Hakim Ziyech did not waste the opportunities he got and made Morocco 1-0 ahead.
Morocco managed to add to their goal in the 23rd minute through Youssef En-Nesyri.
Youssef En-Nesyri was able to score after receiving a measured pass from Achraf Hakimi.
In the 40th minute, Canada was able to reduce the position through an own goal by Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd.
The first half ended with a score of 1-2 in favor of Morocco.
In the second half Canada and Morocco both attempted to score.
But unfortunately there were no additional goals created for both teams.
Until the long whistle sounded by the referee the score still changed in favor of Morocco over Canada with a score of 1-2.
This result made Morocco managed to win Group F and qualify for the round of 16.
Because in other matches Croatia was only able to play a goalless draw when it met Belgium.
In the round of 16 Morocco will meet Spain.
