Napoli officially brought in a winger from Bologna, Simone Verdi. The Partenopei is very serious to build strong squad in order to fulfill dream of grabbing the Scudetto in Serie A 2018-2019 as well as stop the domination of Juventus.
The signing of Verdi agreement with Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, took place on Monday (6/11/2018). This transfer involves 25 million euros with a five-year contract duration.
Verdi was already undergoing medical tests several hours before meeting De Laurentiis to sign the contract.
Last season, Verdi contribution was big enough for Bologna with 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances in the Italian league. The record also makes the 25-year-old player called up to strengthen Italian national team. Reportedly, Verdi will get salary of 1.8 million euros per season. In addition, Verdi will likely use the number that Gonzalo Higuain once used, 9.
Verdi has experience at international level by playing for Italian national team. Since debut in March 2017, he has so far collected four caps.
The presence of Verdi will make the competition in the front line of Napoli increasingly tight. Napoli had previously had Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon, Dries Mertens, and Arkadiusz Milik.
Other than Bologna who got the funds, Former club Milan, where Verdi learnt his trade, will also receive 5 million euros for the move. In the transfer agreement, Milan will get 20 percent of Verdi’s transfer price if the player leaves from Bologna. Thus, Verdi will feel the inaugural season with Carlo Ancelotti.
Don Carlo was recruited at the end of 2017-2018 season to replace Maurizio Sarri who was fired from San Paolo.
