AS Roma managed to force a 2-2 draw in their visit to Napoli headquarters, a duel in Week 32 of Serie A 2023/2024, Sunday 28 April 2024.
Playing at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Napoli are hunting for three points to continue approaching the European zone. Roma, too, must win if they want to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
As predicted, Napoli appeared more dominant, but Roma knew how to fight back. Napoli’s two goals were scored by Mathias Olivera (64′) and Victor Osimhen (84′), while Roma scored through the actions of Paulo Dybala (59′) and Tammy Abraham (88′).
This draw does not change the position of the two teams in the temporary Italian League standings. Roma is ranked 5th, Napoli is ranked 8th.
Napoli appeared much more dominant in the first half, unfortunately they couldn’t score a goal. Il Partenopei are hunting for tickets to the Champions League next season, it is natural for them to appear more aggressive.
The hosts were superior in almost every statistical aspect in the first 45 minutes. Napoli fired a total of 12 shots, three of which were on target. Osimhen’s movement kept the Roma defenders busy.
Even so, it was Roma who stole the goal first at the start of the second half. The referee awarded a penalty for Jesus’ foul on Azmoun. In the 59th minute, Dybala stepped up as the executioner and sent a hard shot. Goal! Napoli 0-1 Roma.
In the 64th minute, Napoli equalized. Olivera stepped forward to help the attack, cutting to the edge of the box and firing a shot which Kristensen deflected. Goal! Napoli 1-1 Roma.
In the 84th minute, Napoli took the lead. The referee awarded a penalty for a violation by a Roma defender. Osimhen stepped up as the executor and fired hard. Goal! Napoli 2-1 Roma.
In the 88th minute, Roma scored the equalizer. Corner kick scheme, Dybala’s pass was deflected by Ndicka towards Tammy who was ready to shoot from close range. Goal! Napoli 2-2 Roma.
Kvaratskheila did not score a goal and did not make an assist in this match. Even so, he played solidly with a big contribution in the team’s offensive movements.
Kvaratskheila made a total of 4 shot attempts, quite a lot for a winger. He also opened up opportunities with 3 key passes in a share of 83% accurate passes.
