The US league announced on Monday that the 2021 NBA Draft ceremony, in which the 30 teams share the best basketball promises, to be held on July 29. The event was scheduled a week after an eventual seventh game of the 2020/21 Finals.
The NBA Draft Lottery ceremony, in which the franchises that will be chosen first will be known, will take place on June 22, a month after the start of the playoffs, the NBA detailed in a statement.
“Subject to evolving public health conditions, Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2021 is scheduled to take place Monday, June 21 through Sunday, June 27.” NBA said in a statement.
“ESPN networks plan to televise the NBA Draft Combine, with coverage featuring five-on-five games and strength and agility testing.
“The deadline for an early entry player to apply for this year’s NBA Draft is Sunday, May 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the NBA Draft is Monday, July 19 at 5 p.m. ET.” they added.
The basketball league did not disclose the venues for these two events or the possible restrictions it will have to face due to the risks of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The 2020 Draft, in which Anthony Edwards was chosen No. 1 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, was held virtually on November 18.
Edwards became the 11th straight one-and-done player to be the No 1 pick, coming in a year where there was no clear obvious choice. He averaged 19.1 points for the Bulldogs, tops among all freshman.
“I’m feeling very joyful and excited just because of the fact I had my mother and my grandmother next to me,” Edwards said on a Zoom conference call with reporters.
