Draymond Green could become a free agent next summer. NBA analyst and ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins recommends he join the Los Angeles Lakers.
Perkins said Green should think about not exercising the player option in his contract and joining the Angelino team.
“If I’m Draymond I’m trying to get to Los Angeles and if I’m the Lakers I’d be trying to get Draymond Green,” Perkins said.
On the situation, Green’s ESPN partner, Stephen A Smith, disclosed that Green would prefer to join the Lakers as his next NBA team. The statement was made in response to the incident in which the center forward hit Jordan Poole.
“Now, I can tell you that Green is hoping this will be his last year at Golden State. That’s because he wants to go to the Lakers.” Smith said.
“He won’t tell anyone this, but he doesn’t think I don’t know. He would rather be in Los Angeles if he had to leave the Warriors,” Smith added.
It is worth remembering Green has a good relationship with LeBron James. Furthermore, both are touted by Klutch Sports.
In mid-April, Evan Massey, from the NBA Analysis website, also said that the Los Angeles team dreams of having Green for next season.
But it is not certain that the center forward will be available in July. To test the market, then, he needs to turn down an automatic extension option for next season.
Green has a US$27.6 million commitment that he will return. It is unclear whether it will be able to compete for such a large annual wage with another franchise that is already 33 years old. However, the Warriors’ wage issues will not be a simple matter to deal with in the next summer.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are on maximum value contracts. Moreover, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins will each earn over $24 million next season.
