The Spanish goalkeeper, David De Gea, has not been satisfied even nine years playing at Manchester United and said he wanted to play longer with the Red Devils.
De Gea came from Atletico Madrid in 2011. At that time De Gea became a replacement for veteran goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar who retired.
Until now De Gea has won the English Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and Europa League with Manchester United. De Gea’s achievements are still far below those of Van Der Sar and his idol, Peter Schmeichel. Manchester United also had difficulty becoming a domestic ruler, unlike when it was still handled by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Apart from the minimal titles obtained, De Gea said he wanted to play longer for Manchester United.
“Yes, I’m getting older. Being a part of this club is really amazing. Imagine, almost 10 years, it’s like a dream. It’s fun to play for this club, so I hope I can be here for a few more years, even longer,” said De Gea, who still has a contract until 2023, quoted from the club’s official website.
De Gea appeared inconsistent with Manchester United, both at the beginning of the joining period and some time later. His appearance had slumped and highlighted for blunders.
Along with a better Manchester United game, before the English Premier League was stopped because of the corona virus outbreak, De Gea was again become one of the important players in the Manchester Red club.
De Gea feels confident that Manchester United can look competitive if the 2019/2020 season resumes after a long break.
“I think we are progressing. We are in a good moment. I think we are in a good performance, we did not concede many goals and there are qualities brought by Bruno [Fernandes].”
“He is a smart player, a top midfielder, the team is developing with him and it is a pity all must stop when we are at a good moment. Hopefully with the recovery of injured players when the league resumes, we can fight back,” De Gea said. .
