Nemanja Matic Reveals Why He Chose AS Roma after Leaving Manchester United

AS Roma midfielder Nemanja Matic has revealed that it was an easy decision to choose the Yellow and Reds in the recent transfer window. The Serbian feels Jose Mourinho side is the best in the world.

Matic joined Roma in the summer from Manchester United for free. The 34-year-old had previously played under Mourinho in Premier League and reunited with the Portuguese manager in Roma.

“I needed a new challenge. I never played football for the money, but because I liked being on the pitch.” Matic said.

“I wanted to play more, so when Mourinho called, I knew I had made the right decision,” Matic added.

Matic also labelled Mourinho as one of the best managers in the world. Both men have a good relationship during at Chelsea and United.

“Everyone agrees that he is one of the best managers in the history of football. My personal relationship with him is great, but if you ask me why I don’t know.” Matic said.

“I’ve never asked for anything special from him and it can also be very difficult to work with him if you don’t have good results, because he always wants to win.

“He puts a lot of pressure on him, on the players and on the staff. If you don’t win, you’re in trouble.” he added.

Matic made 189 appearances during his time with Manchester United Across his spells at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, he has played 159 times under Mourinho already.

Matic will not just be reuniting with Mourinho, but also his former United teammate Chris Smalling.

“Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and a coach, Jose Mourinho, who is well known to everyone, making the decision to come here very straightforward.” Matic said.

“I hope that by working together we are able to achieve some great things.” Matic added.
