Netherlands vs Austria Euro 2024 results: Score 2-3

The Austrian national team won a crucial victory in the final match of Group D Euro 2024. Against the Dutch national team, Austria won with a score of 3-2.

In this match, the Austrian national team took the lead thanks to Donyell Malen’s own goal, Romano Schmidt’s goal and Marcel Sabitzer’s goal. Meanwhile, the Netherlands was able to reduce the position thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay.

Thanks to this result, Austria displaced the Netherlands from the runner-up position in Group D Euro 2024 and qualified for the round of 16. Meanwhile the Netherlands was in third place, and they still qualified as the third best.

The match which was held at the Olympiastadion Berlin was fierce. Both teams immediately traded attacks from the start of the match.

But unfortunately for the Netherlands, their goal was broken in the sixth minute. Starting from Prass’ bait from the left side, Donyell Malen tried to cut the ball, but the ball went into the Dutch goal. Austria leads 1-0 in this match.

Being left behind, the Dutch tried to get up. They increased the intensity of their attacks to quickly equalize.

In the 23rd minute, the Netherlands almost scored a goal through Malen’s action, but unfortunately his shot went narrowly wide of the Austrian goal.

Meanwhile, Austria only created another dangerous opportunity in the 39th minute, after Marcel Sabitzer’s long-range shot forced Verbruggen to make a crucial save in this match.

Until the first half ended, the score remained 1-0 for Austria’s advantage.

Entering the second half, the Netherlands immediately appeared to be pressing. They tried to aim for a quick goal to equalize.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Dutch managed to equalize the score at 1-1. Receiving feedback from Xavi Simons, Cody Gakpo fired a curling shot in the penalty box and into the Austrian goal.

However, this 1-1 score did not last long. Because in the 59th minute, Austria scored another goal. This time, Romano Schmid successfully headed the ball from Grillitsch’s cross perfectly and ripped through the Dutch goal. Austria managed to take the lead again with a score of 1-2.

Back in a lagging position, the Dutch tried to increase the intensity of their attacks. They try to score additional goals to avoid defeat.

In the 77th minute, Dutch fans cheered after Memphis Depay successfully broke into the Austrian goal with his chip shot. However, VAR had time to check the goal, because in the process of creating the goal, Wout Weghorst, who gave the ball to Depay, was indicated to have made a handball.

In the replay it was seen that the ball did hit the striker’s hand, but Weghorst’s hand was deemed to be in a natural position so the referee approved the goal. The score was again tied at 2-2.

Three minutes later, the Dutch were behind again with a score of 3-2. Starting from a counter-attack scheme, Marcel Sabitzer managed to go one on one with Verbruggen then fired a shot and scored a goal.
