Manchester United finished the 2019/20 season strongly, sealing third place with Sunday’s 2-0 win at Leicester City.
In the seven years since United lifted their last Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson, no manager can bring silverware back to the Old Trafford.
Speaking to media, former United full-back Gary Neville has believed only one thing can make United will win again if both Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola leave.
“The one thing I can guarantee you is that United will win again. That might not be this year or next year, but it will be amazing when they win again, and the longer it builds up, the greater the actual feeling is when you do it.” Neville said.
“I’m not sitting here, as a United fan, thinking, ‘We must win the league this year’. Yes, we’d like to, but you know when it’s your time and it’s not yet.
“It will be, maybe, when Klopp and Guardiola leave Liverpool and City, hopefully in the next couple of years! That will be the chance, as they’re two outstanding managers who have built really good teams, but they’ll leave in the next one, two or three years.” Neville added.
“That will be the point when United can come back in and capitalise, I’m sure Chelsea are thinking that way as well.” Neville added.
City won their Premier League under Guardiola twice. The first during the 2017/18 season and the second time was during the 2019/20 season. This was typically called the centurion season in which the Spaniard guided City to 100 points and 98 points in the Premier League.
Liverpool on the other hand, won their first Premier League title after 30 year wait under Klopp. So many mangers have tried and failed bring silverware back to the Anfiled since 2015.
