New Jersey Devils Sign Dawson Mercer to Three-year ontract

TSN Insider Darren Dreger reported the New Jersey Devils signed RFA Dawson Mercer to a three-year contract for $12 million.

In other words, $4 million per season, good for Mercer but very affordable on the part of the NHL club as it moves toward real competitiveness next year.

The 22-year-old superstar that has been an effective center for the Devils to this point.

Last season, he put up 20 goals and 33 points in 82 games — worse than the year before when he potted 27 goals to go with his 56 points in exactly as many games.

Although Mercer has not had the year his comrades have been having, he is still a key to the Devils and adds depth and dimensions on offense for New Jersey.

Mercer did not report to training camp on the first day of the match because of his contract issue, an issue that had been a source of worry to the fans and pundits.

His signing is timely for the team as it seeks to reinforce its squad in the run up to the next season.

This delay in the conclusion of the agreement had created certain doubts about the processes of negotiations, but the signing of this contract will allow Mercer to concentrate on his actions and adaptation to the strategies of the team.

Mercer will be a main asset in the Devils’ drive to achieve victory in the forthcoming season through this new contract.

His recovery from last season’s form will be of interest, as the team looks to capitalise on recent form and progress further in the playoffs.

The Devils’ management clearly sees potential in Mercer, and this investment reflects their confidence in his abilities to contribute significantly to the team’s future.
