Krafton, developer of PUBG Mobile, has confirmed that its battle royale game will soon have a 120fps mode. The upcoming version 3.2 update will introduce this mode.
With this 120fps mode, the PUBG Mobile playing experience will be smoother and more responsive. Previously, this game only supported up to 90fps to provide a smoother experience.
Now, PUBG Mobile is taking it a step further by introducing a 120fps mode, although it is not yet certain whether this mode will be available for Android and iOS devices.
With this 120fps mode, PUBG Mobile will likely be optimized for high-end and mid-range smartphones, considering the higher demands for rendering games at higher frame rates. However, lower-end devices may face challenges in maintaining consistent performance at 120fps, especially with lower graphics settings. Most low-end devices also don’t support 90fps yet.
According to a report from Gizmochina, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, is also expected to support 120fps mode in the near future, matching the global version.
Currently, the developer is conducting beta testing. Several beta test participants from PUBG Mobile and BGMI have experienced the 120fps mode firsthand. They have reported several warnings from the game regarding potential performance issues and increased battery consumption when using this mode.
To take full advantage of 120fps mode, smartphone manufacturers also need to optimize their devices.
Users of high-end smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets are expected to be able to use 120fps mode without any problems. Similarly, iPhones with 120Hz displays are also expected to support this mode.
The announcement regarding the 120fps mode came not long after the release of PUBG Mobile version 3.1. Update 3.1 introduces several important features, including a new “Skyhigh Spectacle” theme mode that features the sky with unique modes of transportation and strategic items.
