Newcastle United is one step away from becoming a new wealthy club in the Premier League. The club, based in St James’ Park, is just waiting for time to be led by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman.
A feasibility check for new investors is underway and is expected to be completed on April 30, 2020. After this process was passed the official club ownership transaction worth 300 million pounds from Mike Ashley changed hands to Mohammad bin Salman.
Beyond the acquisition process and the pros and cons of any new potential owners, Newcastle have been hotly discussed lately. The Magpies are associated with the names of the coaches and top players who are called into the coveted list in the transfer market next season.
The coach who is rumored to be the target of Newcastle is not arbitrary, such as Mauricio Pochettino (former Tottenham Hotspur coach) to Massimiliano Allegri (former Juventus coach).
The names of the players who are associated with Newcastle are no less flashy. Starting from Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain), Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona), Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli), and Nabil Fekir (Real Betis).
The arrival of Pochettino or Allegri and the players above will no doubt make Newcastle a better team than they are today. Newcastle can level up from just a team that enlivens the English Premier League midfield zone.
But what needs to be realized is that the arrival of a wealthy new owner will not automatically create a successful team. This means it will not be as easy as turning the palm of hand for Newcastle to lift the trophy that was last won the 1926/1927 season ago or compete in the top zone like the early 2000s.
It took Manchester City three years to feel the inaugural English Premier League title since it was acquired by Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.
Flush money from Sheikh Mansour as the club owner makes the club free to buy players at expensive prices. Including Robinho who was brought from Real Madrid with a transfer value of 32.5 million pounds in that year.
In the following season, Man City even spent more than 100 million pounds to build team strength. The fact is that the English Premier League title has not yet been brought to the Etihad Stadium.
In the 2011/2012 season, Man City finally won their third title in the highest caste competition. In that year the club also recruited former Barcelona Technical Director Txiki Begiristain.
Likewise is the ‘brains’ behind the scenes of Man City’s success. Likewise also that makes Guardiola want to try out the hard competition in the English League.
Begiristain is someone who believes in Guardiola who lacks experience to coach Barcelona. That trust was paid by Guardiola with a passing game that gave 14 titles in just four years.
The same thing happened at Chelsea since the acquisition of Roman Abramovich. The Blues really only need one season to lock the English League title as the arrival of Jose Mourinho.
But within a decade from 2007-2017, there was a figure named Michael Emenalo who occupied the position of Technical Director. Emenalo was instrumental in Chelsea’s success in bringing in players like Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku.
Emenalo was instrumental in the success of the West London team winning three English League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League.
Good management governance makes Man City and Chelsea still inhabit the top zone of the Premier League.
One thing is for sure, Newcastle will also not be able to freely shop around to buy star-labeled players like Chelsea and Man City did in the past. This is because of the existence of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules which bind every club in the English League.
The Premier League as the manager of the competition limits the losses of each club to 105 million euros in three years. If this rule is violated, there are various penalties ranging from fines, point deductions and transfer embargoes.
