The Goodison Park Stadium on Friday staged one of the dominating matches this 2023 Premier League season when Newcastled United scored a thumping victory over Everton as the latter was crushed 4-1 in a thrilling encounter.
Callum Wilson scored two spectacular goals for his team to help Newcastle United clinch a much needed victory with a huge margin. He scored the first goal of the match in the 28th minute, that was a close rangers from six yards that went past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford, who had just stopped a promising shot by Joelinton that eventually fell to Wilson who did the needful. This goal eventually turned out to be the only goal of the first half as Newcastle United lead Everton 1-0 at half time.
Newcastle continued their domination in the second half, which saw them enjoying ball possession with crisp passes through the gaps, not allowing the opponents to break through. Success came in the 72nd minute when Joelinton headed the ball past Pickford into the nets to give Newcastle United a 2-0 lead.
The team’s celebration reached “Level 3” when Wilson then scoring his second goal of the night and third for his team in the 75th-minute in the form of a tremendous strike that curled a shot that went past the reach of the goalkeeper. Everton did manage to switch into celebration mode when McNeil pulled off a surprise goal in the 81st minute. With just 10 minutes remaining and the side trailing behind by 3 goals, the match was over by then, and the goal turned out to be the only time when Everton and their supporters got so celebrate.
The first half of the match wasn’t perfect, with just one goal being scored by Newcastle United. But the second half was action packed with 4 goals being scored between both teams in the last 18 minutes of the match that saw Newcastle walk away with a dominating win. This victory has now ensured that Newcastle sit comfortably in the third place with 62 points, while Everton are now second bottom on the list.
Everton’s loss was extremely discouraging, and now there will be a lot of doubts about their ability to stay in the Premier League. For now, they will be looking forward to their next match against Leicester City on 23rd May.
