At three weeks of the clash against Manchester United, the PSG star striker Neymar suffers from a “painful reactivation of the lesion of the fifth metatarsal” right foot that had shortened last season.
“The treatment will depend on the evolution in the coming days and all therapeutic options must be considered,” announced the PSG in its statement.
The 26-year-old Brazilian requested his replacement shortly before the hour of play of the 16th round against Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes, after having pushed his right foot into the grass.
He had initially tried to replay. Then he went to the obvious. He left the field directly for the locker room, limping slightly and hiding his eyes, in tears according to witnesses.
Neymar had had to forfeit for the knockout stage against Real Madrid, lost by his teammates, then for the rest of the club season. He had only resumed with the selection of Brazil, to prepare for the World Cup.
His premature exit on Wednesday night is a worrying concern for the Parisian environment as the February 12th match in the Champions League is approaching.
“Neymar is worried, because it’s the same foot, the right foot, in the same area,” PSG manager Thomas Tuchel told reporters.
“The referee didn’t whistle on one occasion, then two, then three and after that he ended up twisting his foot,” he added.
In full dynamic, Neymar radiated statistics: 20 goals and 10 assists in 23 matches, all competitions. He seemed well-off, on the field with Kylian Mbappe especially, and with his new German manager

“it’s friendship but, at the same time, a great deal of mutual respect. I respect him as a maanger but when you have to talk to each other, you talk to each other.” Neymar said.
“Since the first time we spoke, I developed this great affection for him. When you have this great affection towards your coach, you give your life on the ground.” Neymar added.
Neymar’s injury is in addition to the recent sprained left ankle of midfielder Marco Verratti, injured on Saturday in the stunning 9-0 win over Guingamp.
The Italian is in a race against the clock to be able to face the Mancunians Paul Pogba, in great form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho on the bench in December.
