Barcelona admitted that they had warned Neymar not to leave the club last year. The Brazilian striker decided to leave Camp Nou last summer for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in a world record deal worth 222 million euros.
Neymar has impressed since arriving at Parc des Prince on world record history transfer in August last year. He made his debut for Paris on August 13, netting a goal for himself and also setting up another in a 3-0 away triumph over Guingamp in Ligue 1 campaign.
But Neymar had missed the second leg round-of-16 Champions League clash between PSG and Real Madrid on March 6, at Parc des Princes stadium due to an ankle injury during a 3-0 defeat of Olympique Marseille.
According to Spanish report, Neymar regrets leaving the Blaugrana for Unai Emery’s side and told his former team-mates about his desire to return to Barcelona before PSG failed at Champions League.
Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez in July 2017, had publicly urged former his team-mate Neymar to stay at the club, but it was also thought that the 26-year-old striker wanted to exit Lione Messi’s shadow at the club.
“Neymar and I we are very close and I want him to stay and I know the situation. Right now he doesn’t know what to do and we are trying to help him,” Pique said.
“The ones [on the team] that are more close to him to take the right decision. We will see. The tweet was about pushing him to stay. I want him to stay and we will see what happens.
“It depends on what he wants. He can be in all the clubs in the world. He can be in PSG, Barcelona, Chelsea or Man City. All clubs want him. It’s about your priorities. What do you want? Do you want more money? Do you want to win trophies?
“It’s happening here and it’s happening in the NBA well. There are some players that are not earning all the money that they deserve to win titles.” Pique added.
Barca manager Ernesto Valverde, on the other hand, he rejected speculation Neymar could return to the club in 2019 season. He told that he does not know anything about the rumour.
