NFL: Drew Brees Says He Doesn’t Agree with Kneeling During Anthem

New Orleans Saints quarter back Drew Brees, never give up, putting one knee on the ground during the national anthem remains disrespectful.

In the wake of protests in the United States following the death of George Floyd, it would not be surprising to see players repeating the gesture of Colin Kaepernick in 2016 when he put his knee on the ground on the pitch during the interpretation of the national anthem.

Speaking at a media, Bress said that the whole thing remained a lack of respect for the sacrifices of the military and for the civil rights movement.

“I’m never going to approve of someone disrespecting the flag of the United States in our country. Let me just tell you what I see and feel when I hear our national anthem: my two grandfathers who fought in the Second World War. One was with gun and the other with the Marines, but the two risked their lives to protect our country in order to make the world a better place to live in.” Brees said.

“So whenever I stand with one hand on my heart and sing, that’s what I have in mind. It’s not only the soldiers who had sacrifices, there were also the civil movements in the 1960s and all those who have suffered since that time.” Brees added.

As he enters his 20th season in the NFL, Brees believes that some things need to change across the country, but he believes the national anthem is a great show of solidarity.

“Is everything all right with our country at the moment? There is still a long way to go. But when we’re all standing with our hands on our bodies, it’s a sign of unification. We can see that we are all in this boat. We can all do better.” Brees added.
