Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III to face charges after driving under the influence of alcohol and caused the death of a person in the state of Nevada on Tuesday.
According to the police, Henry “showed signs of deterioration” and had to be hospitalised along with his companion due to some injuries, although these are not considered serious.
Clark County prosecutors now plan to charge Ruggs with additional counts of DUI and reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm for injuries suffered by his girlfriend, Kiara Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, the Review-Journal reported.
Ruggs was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center and later posted bond of $150,000, according to court records. He had not been formally charged as of Friday afternoon, per the Review-Journal.
“We were pleased that the court accepted our proposed bail conditions and we look forward to his release so we (can) work together on the case,” Ruggs’ attorneys, Chesnoff said.
“On behalf of our client Henry Ruggs III we are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered,” he added.
The laws in Nevada establish that the charge of driving while intoxicated and causing the death of a person is a serious crime, so Ruggs could be sentenced to at least two years in prison and in the worst case the sentence would be up to 20 years.
Henry Ruggs was born Montgomery, Alabama and during 2020 he played 20 games of the season. This season he has caught 24 passes, including two touchdowns.
“A person lost their life yesterday morning, and we think it’s important to keep the focus on that as we talk about this tragic event. We’re deeply saddened for everyone affected, especially the victim’s family.” Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia said.
