NHL: Jacob Trouba Signs with New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have confirmed the signing of Jacob Trouba from Winnipeg Jets for a fee of $ 56 million. The formation of the Big Apple has granted him a seven-year deal that will bring him an average of $ 8 million a year. The two clans thus avoid presenting themselves in arbitration while their hearing is scheduled for July 25th.

Selected with the ninth pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, the American has 179 points in 408 regular-season games for the Jets over six seasons, adding six points in 27 post-season contests.

The 25-year-old refused to sign longterm with the Jets because he wanted to play in the United States and allow his girlfriend to purse his medical career.

“I know what I can bring the table, and I hope to have the opportunity to do that there and do it for a long time,” Trouba said the day after the trade.

“Everyone kind of views me, and I guess most athletes, just as athletes, but there’s other goals in life that I have. I want to be a husband and a father and all that stuff, and her career is important and she’s worked extremely hard. I want to see the best for her as much as she wants to see the best for me” he added.

The Rangers had acquired the services of Trouba earlier this summer against defenseman Neal Pionk and the 20th pick in the last repechage.

“They’re building a winning team. They treat their players very well, it is a high class organization. It’s New York, it’s a big stage and there are great expectations for this team.” Trouba said.

Trouba who was a free agent with compensation spent the first six seasons of his career with the Jets. He scored eight goals and 50 points in 82 regular-season games for the Jets in 2018-19, but Jets was unlikely to come to terms with the Rochester, Mich., native given the other high-profile RFAs Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff must sign this off-season.
