Nigel De Jong: Hazard should be more selfish

Former Premier League player Nigel de Jong believes Eden Hazard has done many things for Chelsea and may act selfishly to smooth his move to Real Madrid. Hazard is said to be a step closer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Hazard gave his final contribution to Chelsea. He helped Chelsea beat Arsenal and wrapped up the Europa League trophy this season. The Blues won 4-1, Hazard bought two goals and contributed one assist.

After the match, Hazard did not hold back. He admitted that the match could be his last game for Chelsea. “I think this is a farewell but in football you never know,” Hazard said in an interview with BT Sport.

Hazard’s words indicated that the match was truly his last game for Chelsea. He is considered indeed entitled to say that.

De Jong believes that currently there is no one who has the right to prevent Hazard’s departure, even Chelsea. Over the past few years, Hazard has given everything to Chelsea. Now, if he wants to try a new challenge, Chelsea should be willing to let him go.

“You have to be selfish. He has done many things for this team. Don’t forget he has been there for six or seven years and he has done many things for the team, for the club,” De Jong told beIN Sports.

“Being a major player and carrying this team in the past few years, you can’t say that he hasn’t done enough to ask for his move.”

Furthermore, De Jong believes Hazard will not reject Real Madrid. When a club as big as Madrid eyeing a player, it seems impossible to refuse the offer. Moreover, Madrid, which is now in trouble, Hazard can become a new idol.

“When Real Madrid knocks on your door, you will not say no. Especially with the current situation in Madrid, this is the perfect time for him to step into that team and become one of the main players,” he said.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are believed to continue to negotiate in recent weeks. At present, the two clubs are starting to approach a transfer agreement of 115 million euros. Chelsea will receive 100 million euros with a possible additional 15 million euros.

On the other hand, the departure of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid would obviously be troublesome for Chelsea. They lost their best players amid a transfer ban.
