Novak Djokovic is less motivated than he was at the start of his career, but the Grand Slam is still his main goal.
Being one of the best tennis players of all time means that the Serbian tennis player has won a lot in his tennis career and of course he has won a lot. Inevitably, this affects his motivation because keeping himself motivated for 20 seasons throughout his career is not easy.
The world number 1 understands that there will be times when he doesn’t feel as strong as other things in his life regarding tennis and now he is in that phase.

Playing lower level ATP tournaments simply doesn’t motivate him anymore, but he is still very motivated at Grand Slams. He is also very committed to tennis when he competes, so nothing has really changed for him in that regard, as he admitted at Roland Garros, Paris in the 2024 season.
“I said recently, that I do have difficulty with motivation, so to speak, always having the motivation that I have felt for 20 seasons or more in the world of professional tennis,” said Novak Djokovic.
“I knew that moment would come sooner or later where I would just have weeks off, so to speak, I found it difficult to push myself or shoot the things I needed to shoot on the court.”
The Serbian tennis player has been quite open about his real targets at the Grand Slams and the Olympics this season. Anything else outside of that wasn’t that important to him and it made sense to him.
Both are his biggest events, especially since he has never won an Olympic gold medal. His dream of winning a gold medal remains big and he will try to make it happen this season.
“It’s true that I’m only focused on the Grand Slam and the Olympics this year and playing for my country. That’s something that really motivates me. But yes, it becomes a little more challenging for myself, to push myself in every tournament to be at the top,” said Djokovic.
