Novak Djokovic does not consider Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal friends, but he wants to improve his relationship with them.
The story of Federer and Nadal is a familiar one. They started out as rivals who grew to like each other and eventually became friends. They weren’t very close friends, but they were friends enough to talk to each other regularly, which was pretty significant.
Likewise with Serbian tennis players, who always look strange. He has a respectful relationship with both tennis stars, but there is a clear distance between them.

The retirement of the former Swiss tennis player, Federer shows it perfectly, because Nadal probably cried more than the former Swiss tennis player. The Serbian tennis player remains a typical stoic person. Now, he is opening up about his relationship with both tennis stars which he revealed in an upcoming episode of CBS News 60 Minutes, admitting that he would like to build a better relationship with both tennis stars in the future.
The tennis player who has bagged 24 Grand Slam titles has always been adamant about the impact the two tennis stars have had on his career, so, staying in touch seems like a good thing.
“I want to do it. I really want to do it. Personally, I would like to do it. I mean, I know that (laughs) we didn’t get along all our careers, for example off the field. “And we’re not friends, because, you know, we’re rivals and it’s difficult for competitors to be very close, and share and give your insight, about your life, or how you feel, because it could be used against you,” explained Djokovic.
The world number 1 tennis player is a unique character, but he is not the most difficult character. You can find common ground with him, so chances are it won’t happen. He still used this opportunity to praise the influence of the two tennis players on his career because they were the figures who helped make him who he is today.
“But we shared the same pitch for quite a long time. And I think the greatest respect is always there, at least from my side towards them. So yes, I hope someday, when the curtain closes a little more, that we can sit down together and reflect on it. That would be amazing,” said Novak Djokovic.
