Novak Djokovic Praised By Goran Ivanisevic For Win At Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic is getting closer to reaching Rafael Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles after winning Wimbledon in 2022.

“For me, he is the favorite here. Before the tournament, he actually played some awesome games. But you still have to win tournaments, so it’s not easy,” said Goran Ivanisevic.

“But a Grand Slam is a Grand Slam. He now claims 21 titles. He really deserves it.”

At the same time, Ivanisevic heaped praise on Kyrgios who had just reached the first Grand Slam final of his career and cornered Serbian Djokovic by forcing a tiebreak in the fourth set. The former Croatian national explains the reasons that make it difficult for Australians to face.

“You can’t prepare for the game against Nick Kyrgios. He’s a genius, a tennis genius. He doesn’t know what he will play in the next point,” Ivanisevic said.

“We have to concentrate on what Novak has to do, what he has to be aware of. When someone serves like Nick, for me he is the best serve, a great player and he is very unpredictable.”

Throughout the final which lasted for 3 hours 1 minute, Kyrgios shot 30 aces and 62 winners. Meanwhile, Djokovic spent a lot of time tackling the variations of the Australian tennis player.

“It is quite impossible to define a strategy. No strategy. 15 minutes, best returner in the world, serve untouched. You get chances, then he will break them,” added Ivanisevic.

Novak Djokovic did not break Kyrgios in their first two meetings, but he converted two of the four chances he created in the Wimbledon final this season. The opportunity proved critical for the first seed to win a seventh Wimbledon title of her career.

“The key point is to concentrate on what Novak has to do and stick with the little things to be ready for a hard serve, for a hard second serve winner,” Ivanisevic said.
