Serbia’s Novak Djokovic will miss the rest of the season 2017 season due to a right elbow injury. This means he will not be able to participate in the Rogers Cup tournament from August 4 to 13, in Montreal, as well as the US Open starting August 28 in New York.
The same will be true for the Davis Cup semi-final, which Serbia’s tennis star will play in the semi-final of France from September 15 to 17.
The World no. 4 forced withdrew from the Wimbledon in quarter-final against Czech’s Tomas Berdych, and then claimed he had been struggling with a long right elbow injury.
“My elbow is hurt due to excessive playing, and it troubles me constantly when serving, and now when playing forehand as well,” Djokovic said on Wednesday.
“The most important thing is that I recover, that I am able to play without injury for as long as possible, in order to be performing in a sport that has given me so much, the sport that I like.
“Certainly, I want to make a return to the top, experience success, and win trophies. But this is not right time to discuss it. Right now, I’m focusing on my rehabilitation.” he added.
Since entering the Australian Open in 2005, the 30-year-old has never missed a single major tournament. During this sequence, he won 12 major titles, including those at Flushing Meadows in 2011 and 2015.
“This remarkable series is over,” Djokovic said. “My body has it limits, and I have to respect them and be grateful for all that I have accomplished so far,” he added.
Djokovic added that American retired professional tennis player Andre Agassi will be his coach when he returns to competition next season, starting from a preparatory tournament at the Australian Open in January.

“I’m happy to share that Andre Agassi is committed to stay with me next year. I want to thank Andre for being with me this year and sharing his experience and wisdom and I’m looking forward to getting back on the practice courts with him and having him in the box for any big tournaments.” Djkovic said.
