Nüwa will replace The Crown Towers name from January 2018

The Crown Towers hotel operating at City of Dreams Manila located in Manila, Philippine will operate under a new name Nüwa (name inspired by an eponymous heroine) from next year. The hotel will start its operations under the new name from January 16, 2018. Casino developer Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd shared the details on Thursday in a press release.

Melco PBL Holdings own the operations of the casino resort, City of Dreams Manila.

Melco Resorts added, “Nüwa will debut in Macau and Manila on January 16, 2018.” The decision will be implemented on the City of Dreams, Crown Towers Hotel currently operating under its flagship.

According to a report, the Crown Towers Hotel operating under the City of Dreams Macau will be renamed as well, which will start operations under a new name from January,

Company chairman and chief executive, Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, added in a statement, “The new hotel brand embodies the very essence of Melco Resorts’ pursuit to provide our guests the very best in sophistication, quality and innovation.”

Crown Brand was operating under the umbrella of an Australian casino operator, Crown Resorts Limited. Melco Crown Entertainment Limited was a joint investment venture of Crown Resorts and Hong Kong listed Melco International Development Limited in Melco until May this year when stock was sold by the Australian Partner.

According to a filing in December 2016, the Crown Resorts Limited and its subsidiaries under intellectual property agreements will have the right to discontinue any license, if the said firm shareholding in the Asian venture fell below 25 percent.

“The transition period … shall be a period of one year following Crown or its affiliate giving notice of termination in respect of the use of the Crown name and other intellectual property rights as part of the branding in relation to the City of Dreams Macau and the City of Dreams Manila properties,” read the filing.

Earlier this year, Melco Resorts had announced that an accommodation facility at City of Dream Macau will operate under a brand name ‘The Countdown’ from July to March of next year which will then be replaced by a new name.

City of Dreams Macau operations will be expanded through a US 1 billion hotel tower which will contain about 780 different types of accommodations in 2018.
