Manchester United dropped points once again in the matchday 4 Premier League, drawing 1-1 away at Southampton on Saturday. Jannik Vestergaard scored for the hosts, with 21-year-old Daniel James scoring his latest goal for United.
James now has 3 goals Premier League in his first 4 appearances for the club, equalling the tally recorded by Alexis Sanchez throughout his entire 18 months at United.
United head coach Solskjaer heaped praise on James after the striker kept his nerve to score in a 1-1 draw against Southampton and hinted that youngster could future against Leicester City.
“He’s come in and made an impact ever since day one in training, today he made a recovery run, won the ball, went forward,” Solskjaer said.
“I think he’s an example for everyone. He’s our top scorer, and that comes from his personality, his habits. He’s humble, he works hard and he knows he can improve.
“He knows he could have scored a few more [against Southampton] and we’ll work with him to get his quality even higher. Then we’ll have a top, top player.” Solskjaer added.
Solskjaer promised big changes soon after the international break and the Norwegian coach would be expected both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to score in every game they start alongside James.
“Both Anthony and Marcus, they’ve played I don’t know how many games and they’ve had so many years in this football club, in this team,” Solskjaer said.
“I expect them to be leading stars as well. And of course Dan James coming in as well, [although] we don’t expect him to score in every game he starts. Mason [Greenwood] was also unlucky [not to score at Southampton]. We’re on the right track,” Solskjaer added.
The Red Devils will welcome Leicester to the Old Trafford stadium on September 14. They are keen on three points against the guests.
