Oscar de La Hoya promoted a lot of Daniel Jacobs’ fights, and that allowed him to realize what “The Miracle Man” is capable of; he knows well the qualities but just as well the faults of the American.
Former boxer believes that if the New Yorker opts to look for the knockout against his client Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, May 4, at at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, then De La Hoya believes that Jacobs’ versatility could cause problems for Canelo, but that Jacobs also tends to overconfidence himself; a gap that Canelo could take advantage of.
“We’ve just seen him (Canelo), and he’s happy … glad he’s a few days away from the fight and is now at the weight cut.” De La Hoya said.
“It’s time to make the adjustments, but he did everything very well. Canelo looks strong, he is fast, he has worked the combinations, he is in excellent shape.
“I know Jacobs well, he is a champion who knows how to box, he has a lot of heart. When he wants to fight, he knows how to fight, how to hold on to the fight, to make you back, he has everything for him.
“But one thing Jacobs does not like is to face a boxer who puts a lot of pressure. And Canelo is going to put pressure on him, he has to go ahead while throwing combinations, working on Jacobs’ body.

“Jacobs was knocked once, hit hard by a right, while he was backing away, so Canelo will roll him back and he’ll throw a lot of shots.” De La Hoya added.
Canelo (51-1-2, 35 KOs) and Jacobs (35-2-0, 29 KOs) will play a unifying fight while the WBC, WBA, IBF middleweight titles will be at stake.
“There will be fireworks. The only mistake I see Jacobs make is that his heart is too big, and he starts to get too brave, and with a puncher like Canelo,” De La Hoya said.
“He’ll run the risk of being knocked down. But that’s the risk he loves and if he thinks he can knock Canelo knockout, let him try! Because in this way we will be sure to see an excellent fight,” De La Hoya added.
