Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele will reportedly, be out the action for at least two months with a muscle injury in his right thigh. Since he landed in the Camp Nou, has suffered nine muscular problems of importance.
“Test have confirmed that the first-team player Ousmane Dembele has a muscular lesion in the biceps femoris of the right thigh. The approximate recovery time is around 10 weeks,” Barca said in a statement.
The French forward suffered the injury on Wednesday in the Blaugrana’s 3-1 win over the Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, which forced him off the pitch after little more than 5 minutes.
Dembele, who had once made the move to Barcelona, was injured after a duel with the German Raphael Guerreiro. It Aontoine Griezmann came into play, which was no real weakening of the hosts.
“I don’t know if it’s a relapse or what leg it is. It has been a rare move because it has been in a jump, in which the leg has gone backwards. I don’t know,” Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde said.
“Right now we are sad for him because we are qualified but the bad news is the injury. We know he is suffering and we will see if we can help him.” Valverde added.
The injury is expected to rule him out of Barca’s next five matches. He could make his return in the club’s La Liga clash with Levante on February 2 at Camp Nou.
This is Dembele’s sixth hamstring injury since his first season at Barcelona in 2017, when he was absent for five months due to a femoral biceps tendon rupture in his left thigh.
He has already been disrupted by five weeks of absence between September and October, due to a femoral biceps injury to the left thigh in this season.
A big blow for the young world champion often criticised for his unprofessional lifestyle. Dembele has not been called to the France football national team since 20 November 2018 against Uruguay in a friendly match.
