The Arsenal midfielder and undoubtedly their best player of the season has criticized his team’s performance saying that they lack focus and the will to achieve something. Speaking to a German website he said
“We see in every game that players of Leicester want to achieve something. We ourselves have not been focused in every game, looking at our season so far, we have to be honest and admit that we botched it ourselves by not beating “smaller teams” in the league”
The Arsenal man’s remarks come after his team had been knocked out from the Champions League by Barcelona, trail Leicester by 11 points and have exited the FA cup courtesy of a defeat at the hands of Watford.
The comments were not well received by the Gunners boss as he termed the German’s remarks as “not welcomed”.
“No matter if it’s just one chance in 100, we have to believe. The worst thing in life is to have wrong beliefs. You have to make sure you give absolutely your best, and at the end accept if somebody is better than you.” said Arsene Wenger
The Arsenal boss said he would discuss Ozil’s remarks once he returns from the international break.
Mesut Ozil had denied a move to Spain via a tweet previously implying that Wenger’s the reason for him to stay at the club
“Have seen the media reports today. Arsène Wenger was a big reason for me joining Arsenal – this hasn’t changed!”
Ozil has had an excellent season at the London club with as many as 5 goals and 18 assists. The Arsenal boss acknowledges his great run and looks forward to keep him at the club as there are 2 years left on Ozil’s contract after the conclusion of this season.
“When I speak to him, he looks happy. He wants to extend his contract, I don’t think that’s a problem”
The 66 year old Arsenal boss would like to retain the German in his squad as he has proved his value, time and time again, however with growing discontent among the ranks of players and fans alike, the dream of any silverware this season seems like an uphill task from here onwards. But with the backing of the board and trust of the Arsenal faithful, Wenger could continue, to extend his twenty year run of attacking youthful football philosophy at the club.
