The Indonesian National Team coach, Patrick Kluivert, acknowledged Shin Tae Yong’s success while leading the Garuda squad.
After being officially introduced as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team, Kluivert praised Shin Tae Yong for producing a positive track record in the Red and White team over the last five years.
“Shin Tae Yong has done well. I want to achieve greater success. People can like or dislike me but what else can I do?” said Kluivert, Sunday (12/1).
Shin Tae Yong made several impressive achievements while coaching the Garuda squad. Among them is a significant increase in the Indonesian National Team’s FIFA ranking from 173 to 127.
Apart from that, Shin Tae Yong also brought the Indonesian national team to advance to the knockout phase of the Asian Cup for the first time.
But now the Indonesian National Team has a new chapter with Kluivert. Aware of the big responsibility he carries, the Dutch coach wants to pass on the baton by bringing the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“Of course we want to qualify for the World Cup. We have to be sharp against Australia and Bahrain. From those two matches I want to get four points. Of course there is a desire to get six points but we have to respect our opponents,” he said.
Kluivert said that the two qualifying matches for the March edition of the 2026 World Cup plus two matches in June 2025 were like top matches that must be fought for. When he meets the players, he will formulate the best formula to get the best results from each match.
“Of course this match is important, I said that these four matches are like finals. That’s why I want the players to train well. Players have to train harder than other players,” said Kluivert.
Kluivert revealed that he likes the 4-3-3 formation. It is not impossible to implement this scheme in the Indonesian National Team.
“I like 4-3-3, but it depends on where the player is comfortable. I can implement any style. In football you have to be dynamic and combine many things. When playing football, systems can change. Players also have to know when to adapt “That is an important thing,” added Kluivert.
