The world number 3 has decided to take a break to recover from the injury that haunts him. Furthermore, he hopes to recover as soon as possible, so that he can return to the field soon.
Through his Twitter account, Badosa wrote, “This was not an easy decision, who knows me will understand how complicated it is for me not to enter a competition and I am especially looking forward to this team competition, but it was advised by my medical team and due to physical and mental problems. Due to the medical conditions I’ve had while competing in the last few weeks, I will be withdrawing from the Billie Jean King Cup.”
However, Badosa still shows his solidarity with his compatriots by adding, “I will cheer on my compatriots from afar with the desire to compete side by side with them in the next call.”
Spain will lose the two players originally selected for the Billie Jean King Cup. Their mainstay player who will also miss the team competition is the player who has won two Grand Slam titles and was once ranked number 1 in the world, Garbine Muguruza who is currently number 10 in the world.
Badosa has performed very well in the 2022 season. Earlier this season he managed to win the title in Sydney (beating Barbora Krejcikova) and progressed to the fourth round of the Australian Open (lost to Madison Keys). But she failed to defend her title at Indian Wells after she lost to Maria Sakkari in the semifinals. After that she walked to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open (lost to Jessica Pegula) before going down at the Charleston Open.
Fans hope that Paula Badosa will recover soon and return to the field.
