Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team Will Be Competing in the Next 2021 Moto2 Season

The SAG team will join forces with the Mandalika Racing Team and the Pertamina oil company in 2021. The Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team will be registered in the Moto2 world championship under the Indonesian banner.

The story between the Spanish team SAG and the Malaysians of ONEXOX TKKR is over. The two parties have split at the end of the 2020 season. A rather successful season, however, thanks in particular to the good results of Remy Gardner in Moto2, one victory, four podiums and one pole.

The SAG team will still be present in the world next year, but the fairings will change from green to red. They will be decorated with the colors of the Mandalika Racing Team, a structure which brings with it a major partner: Pertamina, an Indonesian state oil company.

This investment coincides with the probable return of the Indonesian Motorcycle Grand Prix to the World Championship calendar. Organised in Sentul in 1996 and 1997, the event should take place in 2021 if the circuit of Mandalika, on the island of Lombok, manages to be approved in time.

Already signed before this new alliance, Thomas Luthi has been reconfirmed. The identity of his teammate is not yet known. It was supposed to be Malaysian Kasma Daniel, but Pertamina wants to complete the loop by fielding an Indonesian driver alongside the Swiss.

“The team will shortly confirm the name of the second driver for 2021. For the moment, Kasma Daniel has a contract with the SAG Team.” Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team said in a statement.

“However, a decision will soon be taken taking into account the interests of our main sponsor, and with the approval of the selection committee for the world championship.” they added.
