Danilo Petrucci returns to his home Mugello circuit this weekend, the scene of his first MotoGP victory. The former Ducati rider is boosted by his top-5 at Le Mans, but expects a more complicated weekend.
The track is one of Petrucci’s favourites, and he won the last Italian Grand Prix in 2019. At the time he triumphed over Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso, riding a Ducati Desmosedici GP19 which suited the layout.
“I’m very, very happy to come back to Mugello, one of my favourite circuits. Last time I have been here, I won the race, which is a great memory”. Petrucci said.
In the 2021 season, Petrucci confirmed will return to the track alongside KTM RC16, and the characteristics of the bike were less adequate. Which makes him think that the weekend will not be easy. However, the Italian rider insisted he has clear goals after scoring a fifth-place finish at Le Mans.
“I like the track a lot, I rode there a lot in the past, so I know it very well. This could help us in order to improve the bike again.” Petrucci said.
“For sure, it will be more difficult than in Le Mans, as there’s a long straight where you need a good acceleration, but we suffer a bit in this area this year. So, it will be tough, but on the other hand, I can’t wait to race again in Mugello.” he added.
Petrucci moved to Red Bull KTM Tech3, following Jack Miller’s promotion to the factory team this season. The 30-year-old brings a lot of experience to the MotoGP and looked gorgeous in his new team as he appeared as a KTM rider.
“KTM is great factory and Tech3 is a great team. I don’t know if I can, but I want to be the best KTM racer. This is definitely important for my future at KTM.” Petrucci said.
