Defender Phil Jones has yet to make and appearance for Man United, but he hopes to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and make an impact at Manchester United in Europe League.
The 2018-19 season was not the exception, and there are many supporters who want Jones to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. He only managed 18 appearances in total last season.
“There are players like myself, who’ve not been involved as much, but it’s a chance for everyone to get games,” Jones told United’s official website.
“It’s a busy period when all the games come thick and fast, when you need a big squad with everyone ready to fight. But it’s a period we relish.
“Since I came to this club – when I walked through the door – I knew I wasn’t just going to walk into the team and expect to play. Today’s no different.
“Of course, I want to play, but we’ve got some quality players in that position. I’ll wait for my chance and, hopefully, I’ll get a chance sooner rather than later.” Jones added.
New signing Harry Maguire has kept Jones out of the squad, and Solskjaer sticks with his promise to promote youngsters like Aaron Wan-Bissaka to enjoy a great start at Old Trafford.
“Aaron’s come in and settled in well and, likewise, Harry. He carries a bit more experience than Aaron but they’ve helped a lot.” Jones said.
“Aaron’s up and down the pitch, his tackling’s probably some of the best I’ve seen, and no one wants to go past him. You see players now stopping, turning around and going the other way, so that’s a credit to him.”
“Harry’s got the international experience. He’s a big, strong defender who has helped us and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition going forward.” he added.
Solskjaer is convinced that the current crop of United players can become the dominant league force in the future.
