Tennis News: Matteo Berrettini kicked off in the 2019 season when he became the first Italian male player to advance to the US Open semifinals since Corrado Barazzutti in 1977 as well as the fourth Italian male tennis player to appear in the Grand Slam semifinals.
Berrettini spent quarantine in Boca Raton, Florida with his girlfriend who is also a tennis player, Ajla Tomljanovic who currently inhabits the 56th world ranking.
“I was lucky because I had the opportunity to train at Boca Raton. I have a fitness center in my home, “Berrettini told the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
The big uncertainty is when tennis will resume. Berrettini is not too optimistic about when this will happen.
“For me, the delay this time will be a long pause. Tennis is not a contact sport, but a global sport with tennis players and coaches traveling all over the world. We must be patient and wait when the time allows for returning to the field,” explained Berrettini.
The solution of this is playing without the audience. Berrettini is open to these solutions in these troubling times.

“I think it’s important to find something to witness in this challenging period with a number of applicable rules. The beauty of tennis is playing in front of the audience and in front of television, “added Berrettini.
“It would be great to be able to carry out the French Open and US Open, but I think it would be better to just do the regional tournament and start it again in the 2021 season. I hope to be able to play as many tournaments as possible. I am open to diving in the Italian Open in Milan and Rome. This crisis will have a negative impact on smaller tournaments. “
“The Big Three have shown that they can return stronger than before. That will be a big challenge for younger players. I estimate, the tournament will be more competitive when we return to the field.”

“We are happy to be able to spend time together and We often play in the same tournament, but tennis is the top priority,” I am Italian, Berrettini.
