Portugal vs Scotland Result: Score 2-1

Portugal won their second victory in the UEFA Nations League. Hosting Scotland, Portugal made a comeback before winning with a final score of 2-1.

The Portugal vs Scotland match was held at the Estadio Da Luz, Sunday (8/9). Portugal conceded a quick goal from Scott McTominay, then came back by scoring a pair of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This result puts Portugal at the top of Group A1 with six points. Scotland is still buried at the bottom of the standings without points.

Scotland surprised Portugal. In the seventh minute, Scott McTominay opened the scoring. McTominay sneaked in behind the opponent’s back line to head a crossing ball from the left wing. Scotland led 1-0.

A good opportunity was created by Portugal before halftime. Starting from a counterattack, Rafael Leao’s shot in the penalty box went just wide.

Portugal’s deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute. Bruno Fernandes scored Portugal’s reply to equalize the score to 1-1.

Fernandes finished Rafael Leao’s cross with a shot from area D. The ball penetrated the Scottish defense, goalkeeper Angus Gunn parried the ball but it still went into the goal.

Scotland were more open after conceding. There was a melee in front of the Portuguese goal. Scotland claimed a penalty after the ball hit Antonio Silva in the penalty box before going out but it was not granted.

After that Portugal almost increased their lead. From a good teamwork, Joao Felix continued the through ball with a shot that was parried by Gunn.

Another good chance was born in the last 10 minutes. Bruno Fernandes’ high ball was headed by Ronaldo before creating a melee in front of the Scottish goal.

In the 88th minute, Portugal turned the game around to lead Scotland. Ronaldo scored the home team’s second goal so the score is now 2-1.

Nelson Semedo sent a cross. The ball failed to reach Diogo Jota, but fortunately the ball fell into the path of Ronaldo who just had to tap it in front of the goal. The final score of the match was 2-1

With this result, Portugal now sits at the top of League A Group 1 with 6 points from two matches. Meanwhile, Scotland is languishing at the bottom of the standings without any points at all.
