The results of Liverpool vs Manchester United in the 2023-2024 Premier League are already known. The duel at Anfield Stadium, Sunday (17/12/2023) ended with a score of 0-0.
Liverpool appeared dominant by locking Man United in the opponent’s field. However, the Red Devils’ defense played solidly to ward off the Reds’ attacks. Various opportunities obtained also failed to be converted into goals.
Liverpool immediately launched a wave of attacks from the moment referee Michael Oliver blew the whistle. However, Man United had a peek at the opportunity through Alejandro Garnacho’s shot in the 10th minute which still went up. The same thing happened with Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot a minute later.
However, until the 25th minute, not many more opportunities were created. Until finally Virgil van Dijk’s header from a corner kick was saved by Andre Onana in the 28th minute.
Liverpool relied on the same scheme again, this time Ibrahima Konate tried to head it in the 36th minute but it went up. The hosts seemed difficult to break down Man United’s defense which was quite solid until the final 10 minutes.
Mo Salah peeked at the opportunity with a low shot from distance in the 42nd minute but Onana was able to catch it easily. In the remaining time of the first half, there was no significant action. Score 0-0 closed the first half.
After the break, Liverpool’s pressure did not relax. In the 47th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stab ended with a shot from a tight angle. However, the ball touched the side of the goal net.
The next opportunity only came in the 64th minute. However, Salah’s shot was easily saved by Onana. Two minutes later, Alexander-Arnold’s shot went just narrowly sideways from the goal.
Man United did not remain silent. The combination of attacks was able to find space for Rasmus Hojlund in the 67th minute. However, Alisson swiftly closed the shooting space and blocked the rebound.
The match started to get exciting. Salah threatened in the 69th minute with another shot, but it was blocked by the goalkeeper. Through a counter-attack, Scott McTominay unfortunately directed the ball into the back of the goal. Konate had a good chance in the 77th minute but the ball was caught brilliantly by Onana.
Substitute Joe Gomez also threatened in the 86th minute but the ball hit the side netting again. Five minutes of injury time could not be used to score a goal. The 0-0 score lasted until disbandment.
